Nobody Cared About Her

The freak sticks out like a sore thumb in school.
All day, every day.
She goes home
and it's just the same.
Nobody wants to speak to her
for they fear they will be
reduced in social status.
Their reputations are worth way more than her.
Worth more than her life.
But fuck that.
She's done.

In the dead of the night,
she packs a bag and runs.
Runs and runs
until she can't run anymore.
She runs from the people who used her as target practice
for paper wads and punches.
She runs from those who never cared enough
to ask what was wrong.
She runs from the parents and siblings
that are ashamed to be related to her.

A teenage girl doesn't last long on the streets
and she learns the hard way.
She must resort to prostitution.
A "client" introduces her to heroin.
She's hooked after one high.

Now,every penny she earns
goes toward addiction.
To pain and suffering.

One day she takes too much
and overdoses.
She's beyond dead.
The police find her body a week later
in an abandoned warehouse.
Her vessel now lies on a cold metal slab in the morgue
where nobody will ever come to identify her.
This might sound shocking,
but the medical examiner had seen it dozens of times before.
Another fifteen year old deceased.
Because nobody cared about her.
Nothing new here.

Actually I read it yesterday but I had some thoughts about it and today I wanted to read it again because it is very well written.
