No One Saw Me

I was born from drug addicted parents, but no one saw me.

I father killed himself when I was at the age of two, but no one saw me.

My mother was mentally ill and abusive, but no one saw me.

Her boyfriends raped, beat, and sold me like a slave, but no one saw me.

I never went to school, I couldn’t read, and when I did I was humiliated and told to suck it up, no one saw me.

Her boyfriend got me pregnant at age twelve, I was called a piece of shit. No one saw me.

My mother found out about the baby, and beat me until I miscarried. No one saw me.

Thrown out of the house I starved on the streets. No one saw me.

I was thirteen. Homeless and made an outcast. No one saw me.

A month later the police found me, ODed under a highway bridge. No one saw me.

My story was forgotten, no one claimed me. I was never seen.

This poem is about:
Me
My family
My community
My country
Our world
