My Barren Prayer

You taught me something great
A lesson not a year too late
That we are not wrapped up in fate
That there is a way ... out

That even though our cells connect
There's nothing left here to protect
That this failed experiment
Was futile use of intellect

I could say I'm sorry without why
But I know I won't get a reply
My eyes search for heaven, I try
But all this doubt blocks out the sky

I understand your need to flee
And that I have no right to plea
But when you take your leave
Oh God, attempt to remember me
