Love and Shame

I write to remind myself that the sun always comes after the night.

My soul bears the teeth-marks of Guilt and Shame.

And in sleepless nights wonders how I got the name

Of one of those for whom God took the blame-

But I sink to my knees, look up at that Tree...

And something inside of me

Is freed.

Because it doesn't matter

How often I've shattered,

He still says, "Come take My Hand."

So I rise and stand.

Because it's not about the fall or the darkest nights,

But about how you still get up and fight.

And even though you didn't get it all right-

Love only sees the light.

Leave the rest behind.
