Life Water

Foreward: Below is an account of my actions and feelings upon learning the loss of a friend. I dedicate this painful memory to no one, but instead pray that each person who reads this poem feels its message and holds dear to the precious gift of life.

What just happened?

Who's hugging me?

Mom? Okay.

What just happened? How did this happen?

It wasn't supposed to happen like this!

Can't breathe.

I could've done something

   -You didn't talk

I should've been there

  -You barely knew her

I used to know her

   -But not anymore.

Not ever again.

I volunteered.

They shouldn't have to see.

But I did.

The ground...

Can't tell red clay from her life.

Inches away searching for her life in the grass.

Slight breeze...

Caught the taste in my mouth.

I spit.

I'll never forget that taste.

I'll never forget the taste of life,

Wash it away.

Thicker than water,

But it still washes away.

Need to talk?
