I Stand

I will listen to society

and I might cry at the words I hear,

but I still do when

she is wounded by her own sword

And I will stand to say

that I love her like a mother or sister

and I will stand for her

until she beats me back into my place

and I will stand up tall

while she belittles me and calls me names

and I will stand when

her knees buckle and she topples onto me

I will call her name

as a chant to help her to her feet

and I will stand when

she steps all over me to become higher

once again

even though I am to be pushed down

by society

I still stand
