I See Nothing

I hear wolves howling in the distance,

I see nothing,

I hear the hooting of the night owl,

I see nothing,

I hear the trickling of the creek,

I see nothing,

I feel the tickling of the spider web against my arm,

I see nothing,

I hear snapping twigs in the distance,

I see nothing,

My legs begin to quiver,

I feel my heart begin to race,

I hear snapping of twigs again,

this time behind me,

I do not dare turn around,

I hear a growl beside me,

I cannot move,

I want to run,

My legs will not move,

My heart feels like it is beating out of my chest,

I open my mouth to scream for help,

but no words come out,

The growling is getting closer,

I see nothing,

I want to see!

I want to see!

Why can I not see?!

I feel a drop of rain hit the top of my head,

I feel another drop,

Another,

And another,

My gown feels damp,

I start to shiver,

I hear twigs still snapping,

I still hear the trickling of the creek,

I still hear the growling behind me,

I still hear the hooting of the night owl,

I still hear the howling of the wolves in the distance,

My legs still shake,

My heart still races,

My legs still cannot move,

I still quiver,

I still do not dare turn around,

I see nothing,

I hear a loud hiss,

I gasp in response,

I open my eyes,

I see the kittens playing beside me,

Their whiskers tickling my arm,

I look outside the window,

I see the rain pouring down,

All along,

It was only just a nightmare,

I was too afraid to open my eyes.
