Heart of Gold

Location

Held in place by the light, we die happily,

Wise in our time.

The solid light suspends us, upends our minds

We're in love and the sun shines on.

Buttery light slips toward us in peace,

Calling us to calico dreams.

Autumn sun, the silky syrup of afternoon,

Illuminates sleepy eyes and kisses skin

That coiled away from harsher heat.

In a world full of mirrors,

We've built a house of glass.

We have nothing to throw but our yellow souls,

After all.

We've seen so many friends get stoned,

But we alone avoid the cold.

It is not what we have, it is what we are.

We are the heart of gold.
