Grovel

hands and knees burn

from the rug’s roughness

and the trees bow their heads

children’s faces wet

with the sins of yesterday

ropes pulled

bells tolling

guard your fort

guard your mind

horns burst out

exploding in mirth and mire

forever we’ll regret the day

that Judas set the fire
