Goodbye To You/ Graduation Day
I still remember the young girl with the braids in her hair,
Living her life freely without a care anywhere,
Playing double dutch and hopscotch at the park,
Tripping and falling creating scars and marks,
But now I have grown up and there's something I must do,
I'm sitting here at graduation saying goodbye to you,
And goodbye to everything that I knew.
Seventeen years later and I can't believe it,
Childhood is over and I have to quit it,
This part of my life is ending,
And a new part is beginning,
It's a big change and I can't keep up,
The train to a new life is two steps away and I'll have to jump,
But before I do I'm walking to the stage saying goodbye to you,
And everything that I knew.
In my mind I'll always be that girl,
No matter how many barrettes I took out and replaced with a curl,
I wish I could go back and live those years one more time,
But that would mean that I have to start all over with my climb,
No matter what I do I'm going to the top,
I don't care how much the ground shakes and how hard it rocks,
But before I do there's something I must do,
I'm tossing my cap up in the air saying goodbye to you,
And goodbye to everything that I knew.
