A Girl One in Six

I know

Too many people whose no's were ignored

Too many kids forced to grow up too fast

Too many girls with their memories haunted

Too many boys too ashamed to admit

And you ask me why

I draw into myself

Everytime a male walks down the street

Why I look down and walk fast

Why I hold my purse to my chest

It's because I'm afraid

That I'm next

There've been

Too many times that I've gotten lucky

That I run fast

That I catch on

That I'm cautious

But luck is bound to run out

And I'm scared out of my mind

I'll become the next girl one in six
