The Gentle Fall

The leaf descended slowly,

slowly.

At times uplifted by the wind,

at times blown astray.

The sun pierced, the veins glowed;

a crimson brilliance suspended

in the thickness of the air.

It settled lightly

into the arms of old friends,

welcomed into the soft mosaic of color

beneath the maple tree.
