Food for the Famished

Tue, 08/04/2015 - 17:39 -- Keyrose

I've tried so hard to silence the silence
I've waited so long and haven't seem much but little ripples in the darkness
I'm not satisfied
I'm not OK with what I've been taught to think is real.
This life we live, so perfectly chaotic but God, so morbidly serene
Grid marked
Price marked
Housing the voices of caged animals dying to spread their wings
Has long been cast in a shadow
A veil
And it seems as though
With the lights out, no one can see how small the cages really are
How far we are from ideal.
But once in a while, an image breaks through
Strong enough to keep me going
It gives me the feels
There's nothing else I can call it but the absolute truth and with it
I know I have a purpose
A place in this world
People to love
Things to do.
Once in a while
I get to fly
Once in a while
I can sit down and write
A shitty little poem
And shine a light on the lie
And it's alright
It's alright
For all my loved ones
Caged and in the fight
Let my words become thicker than water
And feed you something real
Let me share with you what makes me continue
What lets me go on and deal
Let me nourish your soul with something other than all the false, empty fodder we get asked to live off of in the pig sty
It's nothing but a dollar
It's nothing but a lie
And it's alright
It's alright
Because we're always on the precipice
Of taking off in flight.
