Falling Leaves

The leaves tumble down,

All except for one.

She's already faded to brown,

But the tree thinks she's as gold as the sun.

She trembles at the cold,

And the tree knows it's time.

He doesn't want her edges to fold,

But instead wants her to have a happy life.

She doesn't understand what the tree already knows.

She cries and clings to him,

But the tree lets his beloved leaf go.

"Because I love you," he mumbles as she falls,

"I will accept you as you are, even for your flaws,

I will know when the time is right for you to take flight,

And  I will be here waiting for you all of my life."
