Expectations

Location

All eyes on us as we danced
I'm sweating like a sinner in church and I cant
Meet your eyes
And everyone knew what I was going to tell you
They expected smiles and at the end I'd hug you
I'd run over and tell it all over and how we were so in love
No one thought I'd be fighting the urge to run

Eyes on the floor, I'm shaking
I know you can feel it I was not expecting
Everyone was sure
No one thought at the end I'd go to the bathroom and cry
No one thought they'd have to comfort me on the ride
Back home

I was expecting a little sunshine in the hell I call my life
I was thinking, maybe just once my heart wouldn't kill me inside
I was expecting you to smile at me and not just out of sympathy
I had a dream, I had a plan, for once in my life I was sure

Dear god, what was going through your head
So many things left unsaid
What were you expecting?

Dear god, what was going through your head
So many things left unsaid
What were you expecting?

Eyes fill with tears in bed
I can't stop this pounding in my head
I'm having troubles breathing
Body's jolting, lungs constricting
The room is growing hot
Is this what a broken heart is supposed to feel like?

Dear god, what was going through your head
So many things left unsaid
What were you expecting?
