Endless Blue

They caught me off guard on a normal weekday afternoon,

They matched your smile when I first saw it come through,

They danced and sparkled when you laughed at my expense;

They encouraged me to get lost in them if I had the sense.

They made my gaze linger just a second more;

Then I noticed something I hadn't before:

Your eyes match your face in one respect -

They're shy and unsure.

But a sparkle of something unforeseen

Glittered into my mind in that half an instant, and no more.

I saw a timidity, but a courage, even more

That challenged every doubt at your small frame

And every jab at your unassuming name.

Endless blue where I see bits of you

Pieces at a time,

You invited me to get lost at sea

But does the future hold shipwreck for me?

Will this blue remain for time

Or pass by while rivers rage in mine?
