How does one person so easily sway my thoughts
like wind, tossing the branches of a tree
or maybe the sun, casting watery shadows on the ground through my leaves
Maybe he's the life-giving water that I draw through my roots
and which nourishes my entire body
Or maybe the soil in which I stand, grounding me, providing for me

But when did he become so essential to my life?
When did he become elemental to my very being?
Why did I agree to this?

If the air becomes polluted,
the sky goes dark,
the water fouled,
and the earth is salted,
how will I survive?

But maybe he isn't all those things.
May be I am those things, and he just makes them beautiful.
