Elegy to My Newborn Love

To just visit you at home
is equivalent to nothing

When you became the earth
and grew within trees

When your breath was the wind
stirring the leaves

To look through those eyes

Made for bright souls and smiles

Makes life feel so empty
because they don't fit dark ambitions

Or heal over-infected cuts
and overturn Blood Rivers

Maybe seeing you here today
would be more painful than your death

To speak only of your smile

Would be insult to your memory

Because you were more than pink

stained gums and breathy laughs

And touching your wooden cage
Might have stung less

If I knew you weren’t in pain
and peace came upon you

Or if I was there to see you go
Instead of leaving without you

Me
My family
