When I was a child I wanted to fly

I would squeeze my eyes closed and try:

 it always went awry.

I imagined I could soar through clouds

and do somersaults in the air

But the closest I ever came to flying,

was when I tumbled down the stairs.

For nine years I did not give up;

I knew what I wanted.

Although I realized it could never be,

 I was still undaunted.

At 16 my dream changed,

But my determination stayed.

I now fly through life with imaginary wings,

And know I can do all sorts of things.

So today, as I look forward to college,

In order to acquire more knowledge

I know my determination makes me flawless.
