Death's Hold
They stand shoulder to shouder
Forming a circle around the casket
Heads bowed in prayer
His daughter, the smallest of all
Only wanting the return of his life
Everyone there contains grief
But the grief that I've held is different
It's mixed with hints of guilt
They don't know or understand
Watching the casket lower deep into the Earth,
I'm held in place
Trapped
I cannot move
I cannot escape
Though I want to
I want to scream
But no sound will come out
I'm still locked in place as they cover his casket with dirt
He's covered and buried deep
Another loved one taken cruelly from my life
By the powerful hold
Of death itself.
