Darling

The world is grand.

Walking hand in hand with mom and dad,

My sunglasses frame this clean, copacetic polaroid.

One day I grew up.

I took off my shades and wandered on my own.

I often forget how old I've grown,

Still thinking I'm a child in a young lady's body.

Everything once covered in glitter,

Washed away by responsibilities and truth.

Figuring out who I am, what I want, and who I hope to be,

Prioritizing, scheduling, resting, and repeating.

That little blonde girl sticks around to this day,

But I'd never spoil the future for her.

I'd spend a day in her shoes once more,

If even for an hour,

Just to remember how precious those times had been.
