Cover It Up

When I make him angry

He grabs onto my wrists

And rips me apart

With his white-knuckled fists

But I’ll cover it up

So the bruises won’t show

And Brandon can stay happy

Because he’ll never know

When I make him angry

He hits with his fists

And crushes my will

So that I won’t resist

But I’ll put make-up on

So the bruises won’t show

And my mom can stay happy

Because she’ll never know

When I make him angry

He hits with his words

I feel them all strike me

Names that I don’t deserve

But I’ll put on a smile

So the bruises won’t show

And my friends can stay happy

Because they’ll never know

When I try to leave him

He tells me he’ll die

He can’t kill himself

I’ve still got to try

And I’ll stand back up

So the bruises won’t show

And Brandon can stay happy

Thinking I’ll never go
