Slowly, the sunlight vanishes without a trace
As night covers earth in her sweet embrace.
From the window I watch as the fireflies dance;
They’re radiant yellow stars but only for a glance.
The real stars awake and from them light flutters
Down to us on earth as light with darkness slurs.
I hold my voice in my chest to hear the symphony
Of owls, crickets, and timber wolves serenading me.
Glancing at the clock, I see it’s time I go to bed
But laying there I find, sleep from me has fled.
The beauty of sable night overwhelms my swirling mind.
Emotion, thought, and darkness are tightly intertwined.
Slowly my feet return me to the windowsill.
“At last”, my mind says, “my spirit can be still”.
With pen in hand I write myself to sleep,
and yield to darkness solemn and deep.
