Apart

Sometimes when trying to protect

Someone else from getting hurt

Something’s got to give, usually your heart

For the best you toughen up

For their own good you bite your lip

For love you let them go

Though on the inside

The pain never subsides

This is what it is about, pushing that aside

Being stronger

Being tougher

Being hurt

Overcoming that affliction

Manning that station

Seeking that revolution

Which comes with suffering

When back you are glancing

With eyes searching

Maybe you will see I did it all for you

Maybe you will understand in adoration

I left you

Maybe you will wake one day

And notice what it was I wanted to say:

I love you too much to stay…

You belong with her

You will be better with her

You stay with her

Because she doesn’t fight

Believe in what is right

Before you leave her sight

Remember what I am saying

Reminding you that living

Right next to me is suffocating

I see the way her eyes gleam

I watch the way her body brightens

I adore the way her smile shines

Whenever she is by you

Still I study your face

Still I search your hand

Still I must remind myself

You should not be mine

What can I give you but tequila and lime?

To tranquilize the pain

That I bring upon your soul

We argue

We yell

We disagree

The list continues but I think we agree

That those are the reasons why

You and I should never be

But then why do my lips

Crave your kiss?

Why does my hand not fit

Within anyone’s but your’s?

Why do I dream

That you lie next to me?

This is something I must get over

I am not your lover

She is

I am his

Anyone’s but yours

So that you can live

Free from our mess

Our deadly caress

Lust quickly addresses

That we must learn our lesson:

Apart we must remainSometimes when trying to protect

Someone else from getting hurt
