America the Great

Fri, 05/05/2017 - 21:45 -- Moemo

America the Great is a place

Said to be the greatest space

For values idealized by our forefathers.

Values such as speech and the individual

Are ideas that no one seems to find incredibly unusual

Until they disagree with the speech or person.

Granted, this is just a part of the population,

And sometimes only in a certain location,

But these voices are always heard.

Every voice is a part of this nation

And every one gives to the foundation

That is America the Great.

The problem comes into play

When those who get their way

Are fueled more by hate than love for their fellow American.

To some, those who speak, look, or act different

Are ignored as insignificant

And pushed to the side when their voices should count.

If we are to be America the Great

We need to recognize our hate

And we need to work to end it.

Other’s opinions we shouldn’t to abrogate,

Rather, we should aim to educate

Those who think of others this way.

Compassion is mightier than any sword,

And many will claim that a kind word

Changed their mind more than any scream could.

These changes are more social than political,

But it is just as critical

As any kind of law reform that could be put into place.

America the Great was founded on the people

And works by the people, for the people, We the People,

It will change with and as we do.

In order to make our world the best,

Our differences must be addressed

And learned to be celebrated,

Not hated,

And then we will truly be America the Great.
