All the Little Lights

I forget them in the day time, all the little lights

At me they wave and blink and do their damndest to get my attention, but I pay them no mind

The world around me, illuminated by the sun, holds my gaze

But when the night or newborn morning finds me awake, so too do the little lights

The blackness above me, speckled with stars, the dark river of asphalt below me, lit in flashes by cigarette butts from passing cars

Tail lights, an ocean of red, Windows, a portrait frame of people making coffee, A traffic lamp,

Stop, Go, Wait.

Little Lights

Mocking the Stars
