In Many Guises
Location
I was introduced to poetry in the everyday mentions of the topic
though it never intrigued me until quite recently.
One of my best friends has always written,
though she never wrote poetry - just stories.
I always just thought of it like that
though now I realize that stories are poetry and poems stories.
I never quite realized, too, that even the most banal of stories can be the most interesting of poems,
though of course such a revelation seems obvious to many.
Now I think about diaries and how such daily stories are a beautiful poetry
though they can often repeat the themes of life, they are perfectly unique to that writer.
I had never written until this summer, this May of 2013
though now I keep a composition notebook and a pen next to my bed and I write down everything.
I always thought a person wrote because it was something that interested them
though now I see that I write because it helps.
Writing gets the thoughts that cramp my head down on paper
though now I'm learning to share these thoughts, and am learning that sharing them by writing them down is just as beautiful as sharing them aloud.
I am not ready to share such things aloud
though at least now I know that help can come
in many guises.
