My Father

Tears burn my gentle face
What hurts me the most
Is knowing there's nothing I can do
But look up at the midnight sky
And pray you know how much I miss you
My first heartbreak and you weren't there
The first time I walked down the stairs
I wanted you to see me
See me through the bad days
See me through the good
My smiles and laughs
All my mistakes
You're not there to guide me like you should
But what hurts the most
Is I know you would be here holding me tight
If only you could
The heavens are lucky
They took the best of me
I'm holding onto you
