I stand on the line
My legs feel weak
I can’t take part in the laughter around me
It feels so distant and bleak
Someone slaps my shoulder
So used to being guided in a world that never stops
Another day is here and there's still a clock
School's going to be over and
I can't seem to find a way through the block
Fear is nimble
Fear is quick
Fear of landing on a candlestick
A candlestick blossomed into a bonfire
So as the flames rose, she rose higher
She made the leap
Fear sparked the ignition
Weak, dumb, and broke with the heart to succeed
A life changing dotted line is where my name you'll read
A strong heart made a strong body to do Uncle Sam's PT
From a boy turned trainee, to a soldier earning a Degree
There are many commons fears: spiders, snakes, heights, and even death.
My fear falls in this category.
My fear is being a disappointment, a failure.
my hands are trembling, sweating,
fingertips are ice cubes.

As I stood there silently waiting,
I already began to feel their eyes on me,
As if a blinking light sat upon my head,
Blinking, flashing, blaring.
