When the brutal battle of bards begins
and my metaphorical sword is set
may the verse overflow like molten steel,
may it rouse Romeo and Juliet.
When my guard goes down at the close of day
Empty words on empty screens,
A silent generation screams
Behind the masks of pleasant faces,
Witty pictures, clever phrases,
We break, we cry,
We sob, we fight,
And segregated, rot and die,
If I were alone and an island squatter,
what would I need to survive?
Fresh drinking water!
I hate to be so practical,
But we truly need it to sustain our lives.
It seems so simple – almost laughable!
I am not dumb
I am not stupid
I am not weird
I am not useless
I am smart
I am witty
I am fun
I am pretty
I am important
