Suicide Status

Empty words on empty screens,

A silent generation screams

Behind the masks of pleasant faces,

Witty pictures, clever phrases,

We break, we cry,

We sob, we fight,

And segregated, rot and die,

Then tweet about these stolen lives,

Lost for naught but fear and pride.

A world of accessible information,

Constant and instant communication,

And yet, the cries, ignored and drowned,

Fall, unaddressed, into the ground.

Our people are pained,

Alone and afraid,

Unheard and displayed

Only when it's too late.

Thank God for hashtags to raise awareness

Of something we already see and dismiss

For voluntary ignorance,

To maintain the illusion of guiltlessness.

My country
