They had a vision years beyond their time
One that wouldn't submit people of color to a life of hardship
We are perpetually, habitually
tip-toeing through life
always struggling and grappling with
is this wrong or is this right?
They all force us to whisper
when our instinct is to cry,
to cry out at Injustice
Why is strife so memorable?
It seems our struggles are painted on our wings
As we fly to the destination of our dreams
We can remember the murky water
Traveled in and the time that clarity evened
