Can you hear them
The sounds of the war drums
The cries for battle
The thundering of
Hundreds of horses
Many willing to die with honor
Many willing to sacrifice
Many ready to die
Elisi Said
{Elisi- Cherokee for “grandmother”}
Because I love him, I’d have let him slay the wolf…
But I could have just as easily done it myself.
Because I love him, I waited for him in a tower,
We've grown up
being told that we can become anything.
But the white lies turn into
the darkness that consumes you.
Because once your hopes get high enough,
they come crashing down and
Promised Land
it was midnight
on a windswept
friday,
early july,
when i realized
that my entire
nation was
a hand-me-down,
a last-minute
I.
Throughout my years of unstandardized history classes,
I’ve been taught about Columbus
And Vespucci
And John Smith.
I’ve been taught this country was stolen
From the friendly and naïve.
We were here before you
We are the real "Americans"
You spread your diseases and took our land
sometimes i look at historythrough a microscopeand i feel so stingingly,gut-splicingly ashamedfor what happenedfor what is happeningfor what will happen
