This is not an apology,
I stand here for the world to see.
When life tried to hold me down, I got up off my knees.
The scars that I bear,
that you cannot see,
do not define me.
I know what you're thinking-
Not the echidna.
I see them-
massive structures of meat and bone
clenched
intent
on destruction
To whom it concerns:
To everyone who has taunted and teased me:
For the color of my skin.
For the texture of my hair.
How do I sound?
Through the smile I place on my face
Sometimes I sound like tears (I’m choking back)
From the strain of all of this weight on my shoulders
Can anyone of us imagine how it would be if were not allowed to learn how to read and write? Do we not understand how our ancestors fault for justice and equality for ALL people.
Staring out my window
I think today is going to be the day
Listen to the wind blow
Alaska I am on my way
They all thought that I was crazy
Well I have not heard much from them lately
