Young Love

Captivated, I could not make a sound.

Entranced, I watched as my soul calmly burned;

Like snow, the ashes drifted to the ground.

The smoky veil blurred my world, spun it 'round.

My stomach tossed and heaved and whirled and churned.

Captivated, I could not make a sound.

Her fiery allure and beauty held me bound;

In the night she danced, in the night she turned.

Like snow, the ashes drifted to the ground.

There was no escape, no door to be found,

From her scorching gaze there was no return.

Captivated, I could not make a sound.

Her coppery hair writhed as it was crowned,

Her golden-toned arms refused to be spurned.

Like snow, the ashes drifed to the ground.

In her searing embrace, I slowly drowned.

She came to claim her prize, one she had earned.

Captivated, I could not make a sound.

Like snow, the ashes drifted to the ground.

This poem was inspired by the relationships I saw throughout high school. Most of my friends loved quickly and intensely, only to find out the love was a passing infatuation that brought more pain than happiness.
