The World Is My Stage

“Pay no attention to the face behind the curtain”,

Or the silhouette in the mirror,

It’s easy to become someone else,

Or to simply disappear,

To hide behind a shape-shifting face,

One that knows no age, no gender, or race,

Simple, it seems, to stow away

In order to brave another endless day,

To form a barrier between you and the world,

Distancing your voice, so you are never hurt,

But I, my friend, can see,

The mask you wear is known to me,

For mine is one of confidence to hide the shame,

Many are curious as to my name,

I am you,

I am a friend,

I am a lover,

I am a fighter in your corner,

But most importantly of all,

I am me.
