In This World of Hatred
In this world of hatred, I choose to stick with love.
Rather than giving in to darkness, I will rise above.
In this world of hatred, I choose to find joy,
Because my determination cannot be destroyed.
In this world of hatred, I choose to promote peace,
With hope that violence will cease.
In this world of hatred, I choose to uphold others,
Because an honorable man defends his brothers.
Every day, society attempts to fill me with hate,
But I refuse to condemn myself to this miserable fate.
Though the world can be so cold,
I will forever stay bold.
In this world of hatred, I choose to stick with love.

I like this. It reminds me of judgment--you know, he's too this, or she's too that... everyone loves to judge and criticize others, without ever having walked in their shoes.
I usually just say, "If he's annoying, then so are you--you've annoyed me plenty of times. And I'm annoying. Everyone's annoying. Get over it."
But sometimes I find myself falling into that same judgmental trap, and I think this poem is a great way to remind myself what I believe in--that everyone is equal, and that I should fill my heart with what matters (love, gentleness, kindness), rather than trivialites that hurt others (annoyance, judgement, callousness). Thank you.
