Word Might

If I could write a word
That could strike a nerve,
Incite the flight of a flightless bird,
I'd write a verse.

A single verb could inspire riots,
Or silence herds,
Stifle violence,
Ignite defiance,
That's a writer's curse.

Somehow a noun could bring towers down
In battlegrounds
Entire towns come from miles around
To hear its sound.

And once it's heard,
It could serve to hurt
A person's worth.
Or, worse, disperse
A disturbed version
Of fetter binds.

Once the masses were shackle-bound,
And pleasure dies,
I'd sever ties,
And spread my message
Through the setting skies.
