Why I am Unimportant

I want to hear from you

What you have to say

Whatever is on your mind

I know you feel empty,

Alone, and scared.

I know that from the very first

Moment you heard the phrase

'You're so annoying'

You couldn't stifle the fear

Embarassed, you ran and cried

You heard it more, and spent

much more free time inside

You curled up into yourself

And pretended to have nothing to say

But inside you are forever screaming

But others are forever louder

So why bother trying

When you'll just be a bother

I want to hear from you

What you have to say

Whatever is on your mind

From here on out,

You will be important to me

The trouble with you staying quiet;

You can change the world.

You are capable of things

no one has ever seen before

And no one will ever see

If you choose not to speak

Even just to me

Your thoughts and words

Are powerful

You can protect people,

You can build them up,

And you can crush them,

As I'm sure you know quite well.

I want to hear from you

What you have to say,

Whatever is on your mind

A therapist's job is simple enough

Listen.
