this is who i am- honor of rosario morales & aurora levins morales

this is who i am

i am who i am

a man that was born in the united states

a light skinned man not from the carribean islands

a puerto rican, i'm from the bronx, i am a u.s citizen

i am the bronx, to manhattan, and came back home to where my life started

i know it's time for a different scenery

a product of the the new york ghettos i'm too familiar with

i'm not an immigrant

but a child to immigrant parents

a son to mothers they wish to have because their own child is merely an image

in which all they talk about is how they're behind the prison walls

have ancestry that is from way back, but never saw their names carved in stones

nicknames such as: mijo, bobby, & papi were subsituted as absence to not being a part of my life

they never knew my real name

where i come from, there was dirt of not soil from the ground planting for seeds to grow

it's the type of dirt that leads to hurt and pain from beefs that was never squash due to not knowing how to let go

i wasn't popular

i wasn't invited to parties, my presence was not wanted

wasn't like everybody else

though their absence was quite profound, i never forgot my roots

spanish is my DNA

the language that is a mighthy weapon that doesn't need a gun, and strength to pull a trigger

it's a weapon that many companies are in dire need to hire fulfilling that void that's been missing for decades

i am african

you ever spanish people with knappy hairs, where do you think that comes from?

i am taino

same people with beautiful straight hair who fought back against columbus that enslaved them for years

i am spaniard

thought i never a magnificant place like spain, it has no home for me

i am new of this generation

my ancestors gave me life, kept to inspirational energy to keep living

brought me to where i'm at today

see you in the crossroads someday (if people genuinely tell me the truth about you)

history was made to be rewritten with provoking truths that no one doesn't want to listen

i'm no longer eaten up inside anymore

because i am whole
