Who I Am
We never think twice about labels because at one point we forget that we are one.
But you know the things they call you they’re just labels they don’t define you.
When I was 11 years old I was first called ‘fat’
Mind you I was in the middle school chorus room among the peers who I had once called my friends.
Throughout my years at that school my eating habits had spiraled.
Sometimes I could eat everything in sight, others I couldn’t bear to eat at all
Calorie upon calorie
Image upon Image I was never good enough to be me.
I think that’s the problem nowadays.
We all want to look a certain way just to feel comfortable in our own skin and look good while doing it.
But no matter how good we look it will never be good enough.
You can call me every name in the book but you will never take what I have built up.
But you know the things that they call you they’re just labels they don’t define you.
I think I’ll have to disagree with that statement because here I stand before you
Healthy
Comfortable
Confident
And
Beautiful.
That is what defines me.
That is what makes me who I am.
This may be a shout into a void of silence but I think everyone should know that it’s not bad to be labeled.
It’s bad to be defined by someone who isn’t you.
I was 14 years old when I had finally accepted who I am.
