After you sat on the stairs holding me tight,

As screams shook our home that night.

Where did you go?

When I walked into an empty room,

Or when your eyes dilated black from what you’d consumed.

They were lost themselves,

So I looked to you.

Little did I know,

You had lost yourself too.

Where did you go?

When I needed you most,

I waited for the moment you would overdose.

I grew up alone,

Trapped in a broken home.

As you drowned your emotions to cope,

I covered mine,

And relied on hope.
