We Must Protect the Children

My rights are being taken away!

You scream while I cannot go to the bathroom in my home state.

My rights are being violated!

You cry and complain while there are children on the street that you forgot because they ended up being gay.

My rights are being stripped of me!

Says the person who wishes to bring an open carry gun into the bathroom that my girlfriend is barred from, only to shoot her point blank and blame it on “shock.”

We must protect the children!

You yell while it was children you hurt when you told them they couldn't get married when they grow up.

We must protect the children!

And it is children you are hurting now by forcing them to endure bullying,  assault,  and rape by walking into the bathroom for a gender that isn't theirs.

We must protect the children!

I have heard you yell at me when I asked for a history class on my queer culture.

We must protect the children!

I have heard you repeat over and over while you let your police force shoot teenagers over candy bars, a stolen pack of cigarillos, and mental disabilities.

We must protect the children!

I have heard you repeat over and over while you send your troops into a third world country that they don't have any reason to be in.

We must protect the children!

I have heard you repeat over and over while you pick up your guns and shoot up an elementary school, a university, a gay night club.

We must protect the children!

And you're right.

We must protect the children.

We must protect the children from people like you.
