We Have It Good

I yawn and stretch out on the couch

Rubbing at my eyes, colours exploding in a burst

My sister by me, laughing at the cliches onscreen I know we have it good, things could be worse  By my mom driving down the highway She closes her eyes, mockingly crying Dissolving into giggles and forgetting our differences, I know we have it good, both of us are trying  When my dad, loving and kind Stops to talk to the vagrant, leg lame and hair unkempt My heart swells with pride and love and admiration I know we have it good, God, as I whisper, "Amen."
