Umbrella

I saw you today.

Your umbrella wavering in the rain.

Until I realized it wasn’t you.

The days we spent chasing each other in the rain,

hair wet, smiles plastered all over our faces were the best days of my life.

Tracking mud in the foyer, kicking our shoes off haphazardly in an effort to retain heat.

Cuddling under the covers, your lavender perfume permeating the air.

Now, the smell of clean linen is all that is left.

My shoes lined up next to the door,

with no pair to accompany them.

I walk in the rain alone now.

With you nowhere in sight.
