Tsunami

Yesterday I sat unmoving in a little cove

As the wind whipped my hair back and forth.

I tried to keep my eyes open

As the rain forced them shut.

I pulled the scraps of cloth closer

As my body quaked, needing warmth.

I wrestled my feet in the opposite direction of the water

As my shoes got swept away in the flood.

Songs of happiness dripped from my mouth

As I convinced myself my hardships weren’t all for not.

Yesterday I sat in a little cove unmoving,

As I wished this tsunami was just a bad dream.
