The Trumpet Player's Soul
Trumpet player played the blues
His soul out there for the world to see
But none take him seriously
Most of them say "Oh that's not what the world wants to see. Maybe you should stay in your place and be a nigger who ain't gon make it"
The Trumpet player plays his blues.
His eyes have harrowing sarrow behind them but his trumpet playing soul hides it.
It shall be denied by the world.
It shall be denied by his heart and soul.
But shall be carried on his shoulders forever.
