These Cages
I looked out, past metal obscuring my vision.
I looked beyond the cold.
I looked past my cage.
I lifted my voice as I lifted my head
"This needs to be heard,
This needs to be said;
Metal hits metal while
Our cages clank together
These cages of words
These cages of expectations
These cages of doubt."
So I rattled my bars and
Screamed my sorrows
But one more wanting freedom
Gets no attention
Amid a population that
Sees the world through bars.
