Super Bowl Night

Every family in America--or so it seems

Gathers around their television

To pay homage

To the god

Of sports and commercialism

To slouch on a couch

To enjoy

Ads that cost

Millions to have on during

The Super Bowl

To plead with their team to win

To rail and curse when they don't

And to sit all day with their eyes

Glued like marbles

To a screen

I wonder how many bags

Of potato chips

And bottles

Of beer

Football addicts go through on

That day

When they watch men

Tackle each other

When they re-watch

Every horrific injury

I wonder how many people

Watch it to see

Men fighting

Fighting over a ball

But fighting all the same

In the festival

Of the modern day

Arena
