A Step To Making Friends

Fri, 03/15/2019 - 15:58 -- Malini

To overcome is hard

For me, the first step was just the start

We were standing about twenty feet apart

I started walking up to them and they put up their guard

I was nervous because I was so shy

Walking up while, thinking of a million ways to say "Hi"

My heart was pounding, I thought I was alright

Looking at them, I managed a smile

As I got closer, I decided to just walk by

I failed my first attempt of making new friends

I was determined so it wasn't the end

The next day around the same time

I walked with some courage and went to say, "Hi"

They said it back, but I couldn't look at their eyes

I could feel them looking at my profile

I looked up, met their eyes, and saw them smile

Millions of questions ran through my mind

Will they like me? Will they know my intention to talk to them was kind?

The bell rang before anyone could speak again

I failed yet again at making new friends

The very next day they came up to me

I looked at them with a face full of glee

They asked me if I wanted to have lunch with them

At that moment my mind went numb

After a moment they asked me again and I said, "I'll come"

It turned out that making friends was easy to do

All I needed was courage to go up to them

Meeting the right friends for me was based on luck

I am glad that I didn’t pass the group by

All it took was walking up to them with a smile and a “Hi”
